Helpful Spin Tips (Charyl Brusch)

In this very short video, figure skating spin specialist Charyl Brusch continues a lesson with tips on the bullet sit spin (also called cannonball or Fratianne) and overhead arms in upright spins. (See Part 1 of this lesson here.)

To improve the bullet spin position, Charyl has the skater reach further toward the ankles, put the head down on the free leg, and pull the elbows under the knee.  She also has the skater focus on making the back flat to the ceiling, or think of making the center of the “back stick straight up.” This requires changing the angle of the body “from the hips and the ankles.”

When taking both hands over the head to finish the upright spin prior to the exit, Charyl reminds the skater to keep the shoulders down. She says, “I want a neck.”
