World and Olympic coach Audrey Weisiger shares an inspirational behind-the-scenes story from the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano. Audrey’s skater Michael Weiss was injured prior to the Games, and the combination of the long flight from the USA to Japan and the long wait in the cold during the opening ceremonies exacerbated the injury. Nevertheless, Michael persevered through the various practices and programs and ended a respectable 7th place. As Audrey says, “Very few people knew what he had gone through to do that.” Notice the mental toughness and “having a plan” in case something goes wrong. Here is Michael’s Olympic performance for reference.
