Outside Edge Camel Spin – Part 2 (Kim Ryan)

Spin specialist Kim Ryan continues her spin class presentation on the forward outside edge camel spin.  You can see Part 1 here.  Here she describes a drill she has the skaters do on the hockey circle.  It involves a forward outside spiral where the skater deepens the edge and makes a smaller circle.  Notice the transition to a bent knee and back to a straight leg and the upper body lean.  Kim wants the circle to get tighter and tighter.  Proper use of the head is critical for this skill.  The skater must look into the circle.

Next Kim brings the class to the wall to get used to keeping the skating shoulder lower than the hip.  Next she does a two foot drill to practice slipping the skating foot forward while maintaining the upper body position keeping the head facing into the circle.  Kim gives a great tip to help the skaters keep their weight back on their blades (move belly button to arm during the slip).  The skating arm should not drop.
