World and Olympic coach Laurent Depouilly continues his presentation on exercises for proper lutz development. In Part 1 he discussed the idea of using a back outside pivot to train the alignment and edge pressure. In this video, he has the skater try her very first lutz (on camera!) so we should not be surprised to see the change of edge, even when the skater has excellent preparation skills.
Laurent invites World and Olympic coach Audrey Weisiger to offer some suggestions to help the skater develop the proper feeling as the feet come together during the jumping movements. Audrey and Laurent discuss monkey toes (pigeon toe, or toes inward) as well as the idea of a scissor-motion. Combining all of these exercises gives the skater the skills and muscle memory to set the alignment and edge pressure and move the feet properly to remain on an outside edge.
