Performance Reminders During Program Run-Through (Rohene Ward)

Coach and choreographer Rohene Ward skates along with Olympic medalist Jason Brown (a number of years ago) during a program run-through, reminding him throughout of important performance details. The purpose of this kind of exercise is the choreographer can repeatedly emphasize certain aspects of the performance or choreography. The choreographer can provide motivation as well, ensuring a constant and relentless focus on giving a great performance. (Rohene talks about this process in this previous video.)

Notice the focus on timing, not only of specific movements, but how the overall program relates to the music. Also notice the reminders for specific edges or turns, ensuring edge quality. And finally, notice the feedback on positions and movements to create better lines and stretch. It’s likely that Rohene has discussed nearly all of these ideas previously with Jason, and during the run-through he is simply providing motivation and reminders.
