Figure skating spin specialist Charyl Brusch works with a skater on the entry to a sit spin. As Charyl notes this advanced spinner usually has very solid sit spin entries, but on the first attempt here she forces the three turn and the spin travels. To correct it, Charyl simply encourages the skater to “wait for it” or ride the entry edge until the three turn happens naturally. After the next attempt, Charyl points out the undesired skidding of the edge.
To help the skater feel the necessary time and pressure of the edge, Charyl holds the skater in a strong entry position and then spins her at the correct moment. She describes it as, “I’m just trying to wait until I feel your skating foot roll to the front of your blade before I let go of you. And I can feel there’s almost like a catch where you kind of stop and at that point I let go of you and it turns it into this nice little circle right when you turn.” This is a verbal description of what the skater can try to feel to improve the entry herself. The final attempt is a sit change sit but the entry is much improved.
