Serpentine Step Sequence – USFS Senior Moves Pt 5 (Karen Olson)

Moves in the field expert Karen Olson continues a discussion of the Serpentine Step Sequence from the USFS Senior Moves in the Field test.  Make sure to watch Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 before watching this part of the presentation.  In this video, Karen talks about pulling it all together.  She re-emphasizes the need to break a pattern like this down into sections, and she says this approach is also valuable on busy sessions where it’s simply impractical to run the entire pattern.

Karen takes some time to talk about the very last section of the pattern, where the skater does a back inside twizzle and then a back inside loop.  She notes that these two skills feel very different (or they should) and she explains how to think about the twizzle and the loop properly.  The alignment needed for the twizzle and the loop are quite different.  To finish, the skater skates the pattern, although it is probably not a passing example.
