Figure Skating Tip: Where To Skate On The Blade (Frank Carroll)

Olympic Coach Frank Carroll offers insights about proper blade usage.  As Frank explains, skaters often don’t think much about what part of their blade they should be skating on.  So he offers an easy to remember “speedboat analogy” that will help both skaters and coaches alike.  (This presentation is similar in many ways to the presentation on Edges by Chris Conte.  But if you watch the Chris Conte video, you’ll note that many skaters are too far forward when skating backwards.)  Frank explains the positioning in detail and he notes how this applies to turns and even jump air position.  The forward pressure Frank talks about in the jump air position is a common theme among high level coaches, as pulling back in a jump is inefficient and dangerous.
