Drill For Teaching Jump Direction – The Disco Dance (Nick Perna)

International and World figure skating coach Nick Perna shares a drill he calls the “disco dance” which he uses to help skaters understand the concept of flow or flight direction in a jump.  In the last video by Nick, he talked about a similar concept using a frisbee.  Nick uses a demonstrator in this video to show the drill.  The drill is done on a line with the coach assisting the skater.  Later in the video Nick shows options for skaters to do the drill without a coach’s help.  He notes these drills are difficult at lower levels, but he says, “Not all skaters landing double salchows can do these drills.  But the ones that have really good double salchows usually can.”  Nick believes these concepts should be introduced as early as possible in the jump learning process.
