Basic Spiral Lesson – Continued (Kate Charbonneau)

Coach Kate Charbonneau continues her lesson on basic spirals (see Part 1 here). The focus of this part of the lesson is on the pattern of the Consecutive Outside and Inside Spirals on the Preliminary USFS Moves in the Field test, although the concept of full lobes applies to spiral development universally.

Probably the most common error for this test pattern is cutting off the lobes by stepping on a diagonal to start the next lobe. Kate painstakingly explains the idea of stepping directly toward and away from the side barrier to create full lobes, but the skater continues to struggle with the concept, although some attempts were much better.

In the previous video Kate recommended transitioning briefly to two feet between the spirals as a way to regain control and ensure a correct push. But she notes here that the ultimate goal is to glide back to the axis on one foot and simply push directly onto the other foot.
