Amy Brolsma provides an update on how she has changed how she teaches backward inside loops for more flow and rhythm. Her focus for loop development has changed somewhat from the precision of figures (based on her figures background) to the characteristics required for footwork sequences in free skating programs. For reference, please see Amy’s original presentation on backward inside loops as well.
Please keep in mind that Amy’s previous presentation is still valid and will help any skater that is having trouble with these loops. However, the focus has changed somewhat and Amy notes that her primary change in how she teaches it is how she wants the skater’s back. Amy now prefers to work on this by twisting the shoulders while keeping the back up strong and the chin up. This assists with presentation and forces the skater to use proper knee bend and rhythm.
