Karen Olson continues her discussion of power pulls. In two recent videos she covered forward power pulls and backward power pulls as independent elements and as they relate to the US Figure Skating Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field test. In this video, Karen addresses one of the most common errors and offers ideas on how to correct it.
In particular, Karen makes it clear that proper body alignment is critical to good power pulls. A very common error is the tendency for low level skaters to drop the free hip, especially on the inside edge portion of the repeating pulls. Karen has already discussed the two-foot slalom as a great drill for power pulls but in the video below she also offers other drills and “tests” to help fix the problem.
