Back Camel to Back Sit Spin (Charyl Brusch)

Figure skating spin specialist Charyl Brusch continues working with a skater on a variety of spins. In the previous videos the focus was on sit spin and camel spin and layback spin and back camel spin. In this video, they work on back camel-sit-upright combination spin. Charyl explains that on the transition from back camel to back sit the skater needs to leave the free leg behind and turn towards it with the rest of the body (by using the axis side arm). Some coaches describe this as folding the axis side to the free side. Charyl notes that there are two ways to use the arms in this transition, one where both of the arms come forward and down together, and the other where the non-axis arm is pressed forward just prior to the snap or transition to the back sit. This skater seems to have more success using both arms together and this leads Charyl to say, “I would do that with people. I would try both ways.” She then has the skater do the same combination but include a “shotgun” position with the free leg in the upright spin.
