Chris Conte continues with Part 2 of a multi-part series on jump development exercises. The series focuses on a set of warm-up exercises with important drills embedded in them. The purpose of each drill is to improve the skills needed for double and triple jumps. Most of these drills are general and apply to all multi-rotation jumps and are not focused on specific-jump take-off methods or technique. In Part 1, Chris introduced the “snizzle” which is a combination of “snap drill” and “twizzle.”

In this video, Chris introduces his demonstrator and reviews the snizzle. Then he has his skater do a short warm-up. These warm-up exercises are only a small sample of the kinds of warm-up drills Chris has his skaters do. But it helps identify the kinds of warm-up drills that Chris finds useful.
The first drill is just classic old backward power pulls on each foot. Next, Chris has the skater do a series of backward power pulls, varying the edge depth and size of the lobe as well as tempo. Then Chris has the skater do three back swizzles into a jump swizzle. Chris says, “I don’t want to see the feet clap together on this drill. I want them side by side and then leap.” Notice the focus on flow. He then speeds up the drill by doing just one back swizzle and then a jump swizzle repeatedly down the ice.
