At Home Off-Ice Strength Workout (Matthew Blair Davis)

Figure skating strength and conditioning expert Matthew Blair Davis shares an at-home off-ice strength workout that everyone can do in their homes during the coronavirus lockdown. He is joined in the video by his daughter who demonstrates the exercises. The video shows 4 exercises and the first is a leg strengthening and stability exercise using a pillow and stairs. It’s great for overall leg strength as well as sit spin position development. The second exercise is “walking pushups” which engage the chest muscles and the core. The third exercise is “marching bridges” for glute strengthening and core stability. The fourth exercise uses a Suspension trainer, but skaters who don’t have one can do similar exercises with elastic bands. The benefits for the upper back and shoulders are fantastic (including posture) as well as being a great core stability workout.
