Trampoline Training for Figure Skaters, Part 4 (Kori Ade)

This video is a continuation of an off-ice training class for figure skaters at an indoor trampoline park. The skaters shown are at varying levels, and they were training at the time with World and Olympic coach Kori Ade. Some of the skaters involved include Jason Brown, Jordan Moeller, and Mariah Bell. Trampoline exercises can be used to train quickness as well as balance and body awareness, all without causing excessive impact stress on joints and connective tissue. The first video in this series was just an initial warm-up. The second video completed the warm-up. The third video was focused on just a few jump drills. The exercises in the video below are intended to challenge the skaters’ coordination.

Kori says, “I love to incorporate basic coordination exercises into everything we do because basically, people aren’t coordinated. Basic coordination is really important in figure skating.”

The first drill has the skaters bounding down the trampoline lifting up into an h-position from a 2-foot take-off, with no rotation. They later repeat this with the opposite leg. The next drill is “riding a bicycle in the air” and basically has the skater jump up, create an h-position with one leg, then an h-position with the other leg. The exercise takes off and lands on two feet. The exercise it then repeated later starting with the opposite h-position first. The final exercise has the skater jumping up, splitting, and then turning. Most skaters only get a half rotation but Kori would like a full rotation. Those skaters that create more rotation on the take-off have more success getting all the way around.
