International coach Lorie Charbonneau continues to share some ideas for creating an effective and engaging power skating class. In Part 1 she showed how to use existing interval training workout music for a power skating class. In this short video she shares a simple idea for cooling down at the end of an on-ice power session.
Single push glides are a great way to cool down after an intense power class because they require a powerful single push, stability and steadiness, and an element of competitiveness. Although the ice can be chewed up and make gliding the full length of the rink difficult, it’s a good goal. Notice how the skaters stop and stand on two feet where their glide finished, until the final skater stops moving. After this cool down, Lorie recommends off-ice stretching.
