Edge Class – Part 6 (Chris Conte)

Choreographer Chris Conte continues with his class on edges and power generation. As noted in Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5 this class was in Korea on one of Chris’s visits and you’ll notice Eun Hee Lee translating for her Korean skaters. Please excuse the audio on this video as it was taken during the class with no wireless microphones so it can be difficult to hear. Nevertheless, the ideas demonstrated in the video are important and worth observing even without quality audio.

In this video, Chris begins by explaining the alignment he is looking for when he has the class do a series of very large lobe power pulls.  Notice the posture and alignment Chris has when he demonstrates for the class.  The skaters have some difficulty with generating flow and power with the large lobes.  Chris explains alignment and posture with the necessary core twist.  He also discusses arm position and movement to help keep the skater’s upper body relaxed and balanced.  After demonstrating again, Chris notes that if you are aligned properly, you just have to sit there.  He calls it “work, vacation” for pull and sit there.    Great concepts!
