Axel Class – Higher Level Skaters: Part 2 Waltz Jump Examples

International coach and jump specialist Nick Perna continues an axel class for higher level skaters who can already do single axels and are working toward double axels. In Part 1 he shared a list of features of good waltz jumps in preparation for axel work. In this video he has the class do their waltz jump one at a time while offering feedback and insights about each attempt.

Errors that come up in this video are scratchy entrances, looking down or into the rotation, landings not being held, back too arched on landings, and free leg not getting through enough on take-off. Regarding landings Nick notes, “Your body should be forward on the landing, chest up (and) head up, but you don’t want to have your back vertical. You want to keep your body slightly forward.”
