Another Sit to Up Camel (Kim Ryan)

Spin specialist Kim Ryan continues a lesson with a skater on her sit to up camel. In the previous video, they worked almost entirely on improving the sit spin, the skater then worked on it alone, and now they are getting back together to work on the sit to up camel. After watching one, Kim notes that the quality of the sit spin isn’t what the skater was previously doing and the skater admits to being physically tired. Kim then asks for more forward upper body posture (weight forward) in the sit spin which makes it easier to just come up into the camel where the body remains forward.

After improving the sit again, Kim is concerned about the axis arm in the catch camel. The skater appears to be relatively balanced with that arm back and less balanced when moving it in front against the body. Kim also wants a stronger skating ankle in the sit spin with the body forward, not allowing the ankle to collapse to the inside edge. She has the skater do a solo catch camel which explains why the skater is eager to move the axis side arm (it’s her normal position).  She has her do another catch camel leaving the axis side arm back, and then she asks for the same position in the sit to up camel. The result is the best spin of the lesson.
