About iCoachSkating.com

iCoachSkating.com was originally opened in June of 2008.  Membership was limited only to figure skating coaches.  Over time it became clear that the information at iCoachSkating.com could be very valuable to the much larger audience of skaters and skating parents.  So the website was opened to all skating participants in February of 2010.

The purpose of the website is to help all skaters reach their potential by publishing knowledge from the top coaches in the world.  There are so many misunderstandings, myths, and half-truths in the skating world that all skaters, coaches, and skating parents need a source of high quality information to be able to make better skating-related decisions and make more consistent and faster progress.

Online delivery of educational information is the future of figure skating.  It's inexpensive, it's effective, and it allows a tremendous range of flexibility and convenience.

iCoachSkating.com was developed by skating coach Trevor Laak with input from hundreds of coaches and skating families.  This input was instrumental in determining the design elements of the website as well as the content and the selection of top coaches providing featured content.  Trevor is a passionate teacher and he's committed to making a positive change in the sport with this project.

About Trevor Laak

Trevor Laak lives and coaches in Madison, Wisconsin.  He specializes in on-ice jump technique.  He works almost exclusively as a consultant to other skating coaches by providing pole harness, computer video analysis, and regular lesson services to them and their skaters.

Trevor has been coaching since 1999 and he currently works with well-over 60 skaters throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.  He also presents at seminars and workshops and enjoys sharing information and knowledge.  He’s proud to be a faculty member of Audrey Weisiger’s Grassroots to Champions Seminar Series.

This is not Trevor’s first website.  He also created Skating Coach Quiz, a free subscription website for skating coaches emphasizing computer video analysis content.  He also has a coaching blog where he shares some of his ideas about coaching as well as his research findings.  He also created the controversial website Skating Jump Secrets that provides free information about skating jumps that's well-known to top coaches but less understood by a large number and percentage of coaches, skaters, and skating parents.

Trevor's own research focuses on quantifying minimum athletic requirements for figure skaters, particularly for skaters attempting double axel and triples. Trevor has a graduate research degree from the prestigious University of Wisconsin in Madison. He holds 6 patents and he's provided technical consulting for a number of Fortune 500 companies.

» [- Jan 19, 2010 at 10:01 AM -] Karen Heng Olson says: Trevor I just watched my new video. You made me look like I really do know what I am talking about:) Thanks for the opportunity. Since becoming a member I have really enjoyed all the videos on your site. I tell people all the time how much I enjoy watching the videos and getting new ideas or reminders of things I have forgotten. It's like going to a seminar but way less expensive and more convenient. Thank you
