Backward Outside Loops Revisited – Part 2 (Amy Brolsma)

Amy Brolsma continues her discussion of how she has changed how she teaches figure loops as part of the footwork and USFS moves in the field patterns.  In the first video of this series, Amy explained why she has changed how she approach the loop and she showed how she builds a loop from the beginning.  In this video, Amy focuses on developing more speed and flow and proper loop shape.

To start this video, Amy notes that this is very difficult if the skater starts from a standstill.  So she adds an inside edge (and a change edge to the outside edge loop entry) for flow.  Amy explains in detail where she wants the free foot (toe pick behind the heel on the inside edge) and she discusses the knee action and rhythm.  She says, “The arm switch will be side to side and the foot will be nice and close.”  After mastering the change of edge, Amy wants the skater to create the loop with edge pressure and a quick movement.  The demonstrator makes a common mistake (Flamingo leg) and Amy explains what effect this has on the actual loop pattern.  To end the video, she reviews the free leg motion for the entire pattern.
